A study carried out by the consultancy firm Brand Finance shows that Barcelona has replaced Real Madrid as the strongest football brand in the world, this comes after a year losing the number one spot.

The study shows that Barca’s “brand value” is boosted by two major deals Nike and Japan’s brand, Rakuten. This has increased the clubs revenue by 7%, despite stadium attendance dropping by more than 12 000 per league game.

Barca’s Brand strength increased from 95.4 to 96.6 replacing their rivals Real Madrid from the top stop. Although, the club had a disappointing season in the UEFA Champions League, crushing out at the quarter finals stage for a second successive seasons, Lionel Messi is still in the thick of Barcar’s success.

The two La Liga giants are joints by Manchester United, who continues to be the most valuable brand in the world an increase of 9%. And FC Bayern Munich with profits that have improved the clubs value significantly.
